e are passionate about emerging technologies.

But we don’t build software for software’s sake. We build it to effect change. We judge our success by your success, so rest assured that our interests are aligned directly with yours:

We’re small, for our sake and yours

At it’s core, Logic Branch is a one person shop consisting of it’s principal, Brandt Kurowski. But in whole, Logic Branch is comprised of a network of partner organizations and individuals. These partners have the efficiency and trust that comes from a history of working together, but with a loosely knit strucutre. For you, this means that the team working on your project can always be as large as needs to be, but will never be larger than needed. So you get a collection of experts, with no dead weight: always just the right collection of people for the job.

Accountable

We only begin a project if the timeline and budget are feasible, and we never promise more than can realistically be delivered. If changing requirements will affect the timeline or budget, we let you know up front.

Personal attention

We’re not the kind of firm that overbooks, so you’ll never need to worry about another client’s project affecting yours. And we never play “schedule chicken”. Call us any time for an honest discussion about your project’s status.

Techonology that fits the job

We evangelize a lot of technologies, but we aren’t zealots about any of them. Depending on the nature of your project, we might use Ruby, Perl, Java, Javascript, C, Objective-C, or whatever is most suited. Your data might be accessed with an object-relational mapper, hand-coded SQL, or even a non-relational database. Whatever the technology, we’ll make sure you understand and agree with each choice.

User-centered design

Too many projects suffer from design-by-committee, or “too many chefs”. The best measure of success for your project comes from it being embraced by end users. We design for users first, and deal with the committees later.

Usability

Often times, if your software needs a user manual it’s because of failed design. We believe that through clear, attractive design and common sense controls, software can be made to be intuitive for the target audience.

Accessible

Just as it would be negligent to ignore the needs of the disabled when desiging a building, we think it is negligent to ignore disabled users of technology. Our processes ensure the widest possible audience for your project.

Secure

We firmly believe that security is a process and a product of discipline, and not something that can be added-on later. Our principal’s background and training are in computer security, so you can be assured that our products are secure from the start.

Standards compliance

We code to web standards first, and deal with browser compatiblity second. This helps us ensure graceful degradation on less capable platforms, while enabling the best possible forward-compatibility for the future.

Test-driven

We practice strict test-driven development, so your code is always covered by an automated test suite. This means that most bugs are avoided up front, and any problems that are found later will get covered by a new test so that they never come back.

Dividends of expertise

We’ve been building websites for as long as the web has existed, and we’ve been building software for longer than that. Which means that we know how to build efficient and scalable systems from the ground up.

Modern solutions

Information technology moves fast. So do we. We stay on top of the latest developments because each advance typically reduces the effort required to build features. This means more value for you, while letting us focus on what’s unique to your project instead of reinventing generic technology infrastructure.

Ongoing support

We build products for you, not for us. This means that everything is engineered to be handed-off to your team whenever you like: everything is fully documented and ready for deployment. We don’t believe in lock-in. We do believe in happy clients, and we know that the best way to keep you coming back is to be sure that you’re not forced to.

Open-source

We firmly believe that software should be open source whenever possible. We don’t freeload on the efforts of others, though. We’re active open source contributors, and we put our money where our mouth is: Brandt donates regularly to the FSF, OpenBSD, and EFF.
